Smudge - our school dog
Featherstone Primary & Nursery School
Introducing Smudge
‘Welcome to Smudge – Information for pupils & parents’
All children will see Smudge when he comes into school and when he is exploring the building. He will always be accompanied by Miss Stanton and will always be on a lead. The children are able to stoke and interact with him but will not have to interact with him if they do not wish to.
If you do not wish for your child to have any contact with Smudge please let the school know. If your child works with Smudge on a one to one basis you will be informed beforehand.
If you have any worries, concerns or question Miss Stanton is more then happy to talk with you.
We have also received the Dog mentor GOLD Award for successfully implementing The Dog Mentor Programme leading to great impact on health, wellbeing and educational outcomes for our pupils and staff.
Smudge and Miss Stanton have received full training from the Dog Mentor scheme to become a school dog. By working alongside Smudge, the children will develop many skills such as developing and improving their communication skills, self-control and confidence, focus, concentration, stress coping strategies and many more.
